Body cream or body lotion: which should you use?

They do the same job in different ways. The right one depends on your skin, the weather and the time of day.

2 minute read

Both keep skin moisturised. The difference is how thick they are. Creams contain more oil and less water, so they feel richer. Lotions contain more water, so they feel lighter and soak in quickly.

Choose a body cream when

  • your skin is dry or feels tight
  • the air is dry, for example during harmattan
  • you are moisturising at night

Choose a body lotion when

  • the weather is hot and humid
  • your skin is normal or oily
  • you want something light under your clothes during the day

Many people use both: lotion in the morning and cream at night. Not sure? Answer two questions in Help me choose.
